Store-bought sauces are for suckers! I mean, not all store-bought sauces– I don’t really want to make my own ketchup. I certainly wouldn’t be able to make my own fish sauce. BUT, when it comes to sauces that are mixtures of existing condiments like cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and steak sauce, making your own is tastier, more cost effective, and very easy. Plus, when you make your own sauces you can customize them to your own taste! It’s awesome! Try this simple homemade steak sauce with your next steak dinner and you’ve never go back to the store-bought stuff.

Ingredients
- 2 + 1/2 tbsp butter divided
- 2 small shallots halved lengthwise and sliced thin
- 2 garlic cloves roughly chopped
- 5 tbsp ketchup
- 4 tsp worcestershire sauce
- 3 tsp dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup stock any kind will do! Use water in a pinch.
- 1/8 tsp red pepper flake
Instructions
- Melt 2 tbsp of the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the shallots and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low, and stir in the remaining ingredients. Simmer the sauce uncovered 10-15 minutes, or until the desired thickness is reached. Strain the sauce through a fine mesh sieve, working through with a spoon. Stir in the remaining 1/2 tbsp butter and serve. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week!
