As sunnier days set in and the earth begins to warm its bones, an itch for picnics arises! Eating al fresco is always a delight, but what should you pack up in that wicker basket?
Here are a few of my favorite picnic-ready recipes! Click on the link of the image to see the recipe.
Sandwiches
Dainty Cucumber + Chive Sandwiches will transport you to the English countryside.
Prosciutto + Asparagus Tea Sandwiches with tarragon cream cheese taste like Spring itself.
Delicious Ham + Cheese Croissants make a welcome alternative to traditional sandwiches.
Perhaps Horseradish Cream + Roast Beef Crostini are a bit ultra for a picnic, but how about making them into a sandwich instead? Yes, please!
A Banh Mi is a no-brainer!
And, though not a sandwich, cold fried chicken was the picnic food of my youth– can’t beat it!
Salads
How about a Curried Egg Salad? Creamy and cool with a little kick.
Nothing quite like a Melon + Prosciutto Salad for a one-stop trip to fresh flavor town!
How about a Classic Cobb Salad?
Though just a side dish, these Dressed-Up Ribbon Carrots will steal the show!
A chopped Greek Salad makes salty and satisfying picnic fare! With the addition of beans, it’s filling enough to be a main dish.
Gurkensalat is a refreshing cold cucumber salad perfect for warm days!
Snacks + Condiments
Maybe grazing is your style and you want to go the cheeseboard route?
Looking for a savory, filling snack? This focaccia with tomatoes and tomatillos has got it goin’ on.
Salsa Frescas bring fruit and veggies to the party that aren’t crudités (though I love a crudité!)
You can even make some Sweet + Spicy Tortilla Chips to go with your salsa!
These vegan Sweet + Spicy Almonds make an addicting snack.
This Tarragon Dressing is perfect on greens or cold roasted veggies.
Personally, I love a standalone boiled egg. Boil 10 minutes if you prefer a firmer yolk! Perhaps pack a little aioli, flake salt, shichimi togarashi, or gochugaru for topping.
Pack zesty homemade Ranch for dipping, sandwiches, or salads.
Drinks
A refreshing Strawberry-Rhubarb Fizz ought to compliment the outdoors nicely.
Can’t go wrong with a bottle of pre-mixed of Bloody Marys!
Cucumber Lemonade is the most amazing picnic beverage you will ever picnic with! Highly recommend.
Maybe the weather is still a little chilly? A thermos of Apple-Chai Hot Toddies will help with that!
Sweets
Mango Daifuku Mochi with Coconut Milk is always a good idea, no matter the occasion!
